Champagne and pizza

I started yesterday with a picture of Marmite, so isn’t it perfect that Ash brought home an Australian sparkling wine? You can see it here:Jacobs Creek Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir

Jacob’s Creek Chardonnay Pinot Noir Brut Cuvee (750ml, $18.99 at the scuzzy liquor store on Commercial and 1st that Ash really, really hates going to, as he never fails to mention. The best liquor store is the one on Alberni St. which has the widest selection of under $20 sparkling wines and champagnes… just so you know).

Anyway, the website tells me it’s an NV, or non-vintage, which makes it seem kind of non-special so I don’t know why they want to make such a point of it. Oh, apparently (I am re-reading the description on the site), it is a blend of vintages. Seems kind of contrary, but who am I to question a copywriter who can describe a colour as “Mid straw green with a fine gas bead and persistent mousse”.

Ash and I discussed the colour and we came up with….not quite yellow.

At first a little tart, the flavour mellowed after a few sips, and went quite nicely with our gourmet pizza of chicken, pesto, cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, parmesan and craisins. Oh, and I am reminded not to forget the pine nuts. Mmmm. Maybe Ash is becoming a foodie too.

By about 9:30pm, I am sad to say, I had declared Jacob’s Creek a sleep elixir. It’s a necessary evil of Champagne Wednesdays. Sometimes you get a dance party. Sometimes you get an early evening and Iron Chef. C’est la vie. More troubling, is our total lack of coffee in the house as I type this. Must go find some.
