My latest print arrived last week from Etsy seller SFgirlbybay (it’s the print in the picture, not the picture itself). I thought this would make a perfect daily reminder for Ash and I to keep calm during the next 6 months before our wedding. Until then, I think I might hang it in my new office at work (yes, a new office, as in a new job, again). Anyway, I just love it. It’s even aptly named “wedding mint” for the background colour. I am starting to think the mailman might think I am some kind of 1) drug pusher or 2) shopohilic (more likely, right?) for all the packages I have been receiving in the mail lately. Can you still be classified as a grossly out-of-control consumer when you are buying strictly handmade??? You can, can’t you? Damn.

I just got denied my request for a recycling box at work. Last week, when the call went out for our weekly Staples order, I was really excited I remembered to ask for one of those handy blue recycling boxes (right now I am collecting papers behind my chair and in one of the drawers of my Ikea filing cabinet, and really hoping nobody sees them).

Anyway, the office manager lady just came into my office with a cardboard box and said, “here’s your new recycling bin!” Apparently, management denied my request on the grounds that blue boxes aren’t environmentally friendly. And thus, also a frivolous expense. This has never 1) occured to me or 2)been an issue at any of the places I have worked.

It’s funny that I never thought of using a cardboard box myself. All in all I was pretty excited about my pending blue box, but this makeshift one is working just fine too I guess. Also, I quite love the unexpected rush of helping the environment so valiantly. And seeing things in a new way is fun.

Here are some not-so candid pictures from my best friend Kari’s dinner party this weekend, including two of our many reasons to celebrate (Robbie and Max). I only wish I’d captured a picture or two of her handsome husband, Rob, or my lovely Ash, and at least one of Kari in all her midday free-from-work glory, which any mother knows is non-existent. Here we toast to the gin & tonic, to the creator of the pinot grigio, to valets across North America and to the fine memory of the client entertainment budget. Not to mention, happiness and freedom. As Kari would say, that’s good squishy.

Ash and I have a song we like to sing it the morning. It goes like this: “Going-to-work, crrrh crrh crrrh.”

The “crrh crrhh” sounds really need a live performance in order to get the full effect…but the general idea is one of friction, resistance, denial, fingers slipping off the cliff of our lovely weekend.

This photograph from Paul Costello pretty much sums it up.

In fact, has anyone seen Ashleah?

The issue is this: I want to be a writer. All those private conversations I’ve had with myself, filed away into so many journals – I am ready to consider them. More importantly, I am ready to act on them. I think this blog is a good start. And hopefully, where words live, readers will come. It’s hard to believe how many of you have stopped by already. Thank you.

Inspiration is such an electric thing. Even the going-to-work song had a little more spring this morning. If you are looking for some, try her and her.

Ok, back to work!

Enjoy your day. Wherever you are. Tomorrow is Wednesday…

Jen
